Concord, N.H. (November 6, 2023) – The Foundation for New Hampshire Community Colleges (The Foundation) recently welcomed Helen Dutton, of Weare, and George Mullin, of Amherst, as the newest members of its board of directors. Dutton and Mullin will bring more than six decades of business experience and a passion for helping students to The Foundation to support its mission of increasing access and lessening financial barriers to those seeking a community college education in New Hampshire.
“We’re honored to welcome Helen and George to The Foundation’s board of directors,” said Tim Allison, executive director of The Foundation. “We have been working with both individuals for over a year now when they created scholarship funds for New Hampshire’s community college students. This knowledge, coupled with their stories of personal commitment and decades of business experience bring additional expertise and wisdom to The Foundation and our work serving our local communities and supporting our students.”
Helen Dutton has over 35 years of experience in finance and operations, primarily in privately-owned businesses. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, specializing in Accounting, from the University of Vermont, she obtained her Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license and then went on to enter private business. Experience in businesses that grew over 100 percent annually to a business that was struggling to stay afloat when she joined, led her to become a Business Coach after obtaining her coaching education. She values working with her husband, Michael, to open and expand two animal hospitals and was directly responsible for finance, strategic planning and implementation, marketing, and human resources. Her experience with not-for-profits includes coaching executive directors as well as serving on the Weare School Board and the Friends of the Weare Public Library. Early this year, the Dutton Family Scholarship Fund was established for students in the Veterinarian Technology program at Great Bay Community College.
George Mullin began his career in the electronic component industry traveling throughout New England as a regional manager, representing several major corporations providing products to the aerospace, medical device, and computer industries. In 2005, his career path changed when the family purchased a small local powersport dealership. As principal owner, he has led Souhegan Valley Motorsports to become one of the largest full-service powersport dealerships in southern New Hampshire. Mullin is a graduate of the UNH Whittemore School of Business and Economics. He currently serves on the board of directors for the New Hampshire Automobile Dealers Association and as a director of the New Hampshire Automobile Education Foundation. In this position, he oversees the strategies for investing in and awarding scholarships to students pursuing careers in the automotive industry. He is currently a member of the powersport advisory council at Manchester Community College (MCC) and was heavily involved in developing the Powersport Technician certificate program. Earlier this year, the Mullin family created the Scott M. Mullin Memorial Scholarship Fund at MCC to support students pursuing careers in the Powersports industry, named after the longtime motorcycle enthusiast and racer, Scott M. Mullin.
The Foundation is a charitable organization established to provide greater access to educational opportunities through financial assistance for student scholarships, program development and enhancements to facilities across New Hampshire’s seven community colleges. The Foundation actively seeks contributions from public and private sources to create scholarships and program partnerships that prepare students for in-demand, skilled jobs to meet the needs of the workforce.
