Ways to Give

Make a bequest in your will or estate plan

Remembering the community college of your choice with a bequest in your will or estate plan will create a permanent legacy and help strengthen your college and our communities for years to come.

Advantages of creating a bequest:

  • A bequest costs nothing now yet gives you the satisfaction of knowing you have provided for community college students or programs in the future.
  • You retain control of and use of your assets during your lifetime.
  • You may modify your bequest if your circumstances change.
  • Gifts from your estate are exempt from federal estate taxes.
  • If you let The Foundation know of your plans, we can thank you now and recognize you as a member of our legacy society.
When drafting bequest language to benefit one of NH’s community colleges, the legal beneficiary should be referred to as the Community Colleges of New Hampshire Foundation.

Sample bequest language:

An unrestricted bequest
I hereby give, devise, and bequeath to the Community Colleges of New Hampshire Foundation _____ dollars ($_____), or _____ percent (_____ %) of my (residuary) estate, to be used for the benefit of NH’s community colleges.

A restricted use bequest
I hereby give, devise and bequeath to the Community Colleges of New Hampshire Foundation _____ dollars ($_____), or _____ percent (_____ %) of my (residuary) estate, to be used for (scholarships, specific program, etc.) at ____________ (community college). If, at some time in the future, this purpose no longer exists, the Foundation’s Board of Directors may use the funds for any purpose which, in their opinion, most nearly approximates my stated purpose.

An existing permanent (endowed) fund
I hereby give, devise, and bequeath to the Community Colleges of New Hampshire Foundation _____ dollars ($_____), or _____ percent (_____%) of my (residuary) estate, to be added to the ___________ Fund, subject to the terms of the Gift Agreement on file with the Foundation. If said Fund no longer exists, then the Board of Directors may utilize this gift in such a manner as to carry out my charitable intent as closely as possible.

A new unrestricted permanent (endowed) fund
I hereby give, devise, and bequeath to the Community Colleges of New Hampshire Foundation _____ dollars ($_____), or _____ percent (_____%) of my (residuary) estate, to constitute a true endowment fund to be known as the _______________ Fund. This fund will provide general support for New Hampshire’s community colleges and be administered in accordance with the Foundation’s current Investment and Spending Policy.

A new restricted permanent (endowed) fund
The Foundation encourages donors who are considering a restricted bequest to speak with its staff about appropriate language and minimum funding thresholds.
